Manjež Park (from French “manège” – “riding school”) is a public urban park in Belgrade. It is one of the oldest parks in the city of Belgrade.
The park is located in the municipality of Savski Venac. It is bordered by Nemanjina Street to the south, Resavska Street to the west, Kralja Milana Street to the north, and Svetozara Markovića Street to the east. In the immediate vicinity of the park, you can find the Yugoslav Drama Theatre, the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia, and the Museum of the City of Belgrade. Besides numerous tree-lined avenues, cultural monuments, and busts, there are also a large number of restaurants and cafes, a children’s playground, and numerous pathways and benches.
The park has a rectangular shape and functions as a significant pedestrian traffic corridor with its two diagonal walkways. It covers an area of 26,457 square meters and has a total of 253 trees. Several important sculptures, both commemorative and decorative, are located within it.
In the northern part of the park stands the Yugoslav Drama Theatre, at the former location of the Royal Stables.
The Manjež Tavern is located in Svetozara Markovića Street. The original tavern was opened in 1922 under the name “Kod tetka Jele.” In 1936, the tavern changed its name after the newly built park. For decades, the traditional Serbian tavern was considered a prominent place, frequented by artists, politicians, officers, and foreigners.
